Poetry Month, Day 19: Shadows

Shadows

Lying heavy across the carpet
Creeping stealthily up the wall
Hiding beneath the sofa, behind the chair
Intricately laced between the threads of my loom’s warp
Whether it be sun’s bright bounce
Or the softer caress of candles,
Every object that is limned in light
Is also underpinned with shadow.

I know, I’m a couple of days behind. Working on that!

Poetry Month, Day 12: Soft

Soft

Small limbs
Soft ears
Silky fur
Heart beating rapidly beneath my hand
Large, sweet eyes
Sometimes wary but often warm
A reach that implores
Grasps
Pounces
Expressing through action
Your restless soul
Tender nose,
Cuddling into the curve of my foot
Snuffling against the arch
Whiskers brushing
Rough, businesslike tongue licking
Ticklishly
First your feet, then mine
I struggle not to twitch away
Finally, you are satisfied
All is as it should be.
You sigh, settle
And fall asleep.

Poetry Month, Day 4: Coventry

Coventry

Time’s immortal flesh laid bare
In smoking ruins and tattered rock
Layered beneath the current moment, hints of sounds
Echoing a past destroyed
Echoes on stone, on wood, and iron
Echoes in smoke once sacred, now profane
Echoes of music, devotions, measured footsteps
Echoes of the tears of centuries
        blood of craftsmen
        dreams of proud men
Burnt to rubble.
Yet those telltales whisper on
And find their kin in my soul,
And in the sound of sun-blessed children’s laughter playing among the ruins.

Hobbit BoFA trailer!!

Well, tonight I saw the BoFA trailer on the big screen at a local “Holiday Movie Preview”, and o.m.g. That was amaaaaazing! I can’t wait for the movie. Here’s hoping all is well, even for book snobs like me. :} And whether or not my purist-tendencies are satisfied, I’m looking forward to it tremendously.

More Thorin? YES PLEASE. Can’t get enough of that sassy, somber, somewhat mad lad!

Oh! And I snaffled 3 smallish posters with Bilbo on. There were none of Thorin, more’s the pity. 😦

A Little Fall Of Leaves

Like “A Little Fall Of Snow”, but with leaves. :}

This morning, as I was walking Snaps, I was distracted by a sound like the wings of a bird in a cathedral — a sort of hollow flapping sound — and looked around to see what it was. It was three of the trees across the street, audibly shedding their leaves in the morning frost. This is the first time I’ve ever *heard* a tree (or three) shedding, and it was a really gorgeous moment. I actually added the alley of fallen leaves to our walk, so I could walk through the falling leaves like confetti, the trees throwing a colorful party for the end of Summer.

I tried to take a photo or two to capture the moment: the morning sun slanting through the trunks and laying in diagonal stripes across the crisp and frosty grass, the gorgeous colors of the leaves swirling about me, and the oddly comforting sound of gentle death, as each tree released its grasp on Summer one or two or five leaves at a time. Hopefully the photos catch a little bit of the moment.

What a beautiful thing to witness. And how lovely to be able to appreciate it.

Grown a little, and bending with the weight

“Thodishi pikali, ojhana vakali,
Ahe me avjhad jhadachi ga,
Kairi padachi ga, kairi padachi!”

I think I am all of this: grown a little, and bending with the weight, but strengthening all the time. Although I’m actually a ripe mango… lol

My Very Own Guilty Pleasure

The magical package -- so sparkly!!

The magical package — so sparkly!!

Recently, I received a gift in the post. A lovely gift. A delicious treasure, really. It makes me sigh and squee, all at once, and smile, and that is a not insignificant gift. ❤

For those of you who don’t know (are there any of you out there?), I am an admirer of actor Richard Armitage. I think he’s pretty cool.

The Armitage. Yum.

The Armitage. Yum.

I also love Bollywood films, Middle Eastern dance, and all sorts of intersections of these phenomena.

So when Guylty (http://guylty.wordpress.com/) wrote that she had a Bollywood shrine with my name on it, I was – to say the least – tremblingly excited. I clapped my hands and did a happy jig and all sorts of celebrations ensued. So…

…we come to the point of today’s post, which is to pay tribute to this lovely artist and her glamorous and useful creations. You can find a more complete posting here: http://guylty.wordpress.com/guylty-shrines/

Mine is, of course, not only a tribute to Mr. Armitage, but also an hommage to Bollywood and its kitsch. And I love it oh, so very much. So I opened a bottle of champagne to celebrate its arrival, lit the candles, and watched some snippets of my favorite Armitage and Bollywood vehicles to celebrate. ❤ ❤ ❤

But here’s what we’re all really interested in: photos. THANK YOU, Guylty. This is such a grand gift. I truly love it, and think of you every time I see it. And it really makes me smile, a goofy/happy/giddy smile. You rock.

Snaps tries to help me open the package -- no, buddy. It's not for you!!

So fancy!! So dancy!! It's our very own RA as himself, in both good and bad photoshoots. It is, however, the very quintessence of Bollywood. ADORE. Also on a mirrored background. :D

Here's where I turned the lights down low, poured a glass of champagne, brought out the mini Oriental rug, and lit the candles so I could contemplate this gem properly. *sigh*

Guylty, I love this, and I love you. Thank you so much. ❤
